How will I get credit toward my license renewal?

Detailed Breakdown

Texas Medical Doctor Standard Renewal Requirements: Texas physicians renew every two years and must complete 48 CME hours each 24-month cycle, including at least 24 formal Category 1/1A hours and required topics. The Board requires 2 hours in medical ethics/professional responsibility, 2 hours in pain management & opioid/controlled-substance prescribing, and a human-trafficking prevention course approved by HHSC (which also may count toward ethics). First-time renewal: Newly licensed physicians are exempt from CME at the first registration; the Board assigns an initial 12- or 24-month permit, after which renewals are biennial.

Certification alternative (ABMS/AOA or NCCPA): A physician is presumed compliant for one registration if, in the preceding 36 months, they became board certified/recertified by ABMS/AOA/AMA/BOS.
