Virginia Medical Doctor Standard Renewal Requirements: Medical Doctors in Virginia renew their licenses biennially by the last day of their birth month, completing 30 hours of Category 1 CME within the 2 year licensure cycle . Effective February 27th, 2025 VA rule 18VAC85-20-235 has eliminated the need of 30 Category 2 hours. Only the 30 hours of Category 1 remain required.
The human trafficking CME requirement was strictly tied to the 2024 and 2025 license renewal cycles; it was not enacted as a permanent requirement for new licensees or initial licensure.
