Florida Medical Doctor CME

• Florida Medical Doctor Standard Renewal Requirements: Florida MDs renew every two years and must complete 40 CME hours, including 2 hours in prevention of medical errors each cycle and 2 hours of domestic violence every third biennium (the domestic-violence course counts within the total). Those who prescribe controlled substances and hold DEA registration must complete a Board-approved 2-hour controlled-substance prescribing course each renewal; it counts within the 40 hours. • Controlled substance / Opioid prescribing: If registered with DEA and authorized to prescribe controlled substances, MDs must complete a 2-hour Board-approved course on prescribing controlled substances each renewal (counts toward the 40); course providers and approval are specified by the Board. • DEA or PMP enrollment: Before prescribing a controlled substance for a patient age 16+, prescribers (or designees) must consult Florida’s PDMP (E-FORCSE); registration/consultation is tied to prescribing and is not required if you do not prescribe controlled substances.
