Mandatory 2 hours of CME in medical ethics and professional responsibility every 2 years
At least 2 hours must be pain management or opioid-related CME
1-hour CME on human trafficking within first renewal period and every 3rd renewal
Texas Medical Doctor Standard Renewal Requirements: Texas physicians renew every two years and must complete 48 CME hours each 24-month cycle, including at least 24 formal Category 1/1A hours and required topics. The Board requires 2 hours in medical ethics/professional responsibility, 2 hours in pain management & opioid/controlled-substance prescribing, and a human-trafficking prevention course approved by HHSC (which also may count toward ethics). See the Texas Medical Board’s CME rule summary and topic details on the Continuing Education Requirements for Physicians page. Texas Medical Board
---
First-time renewal: Newly licensed physicians are exempt from CME at the first registration; the Board assigns an initial 12- or 24-month permit, after which renewals are biennial. Texas Medical Board+1
---
Certification alternative (ABMS/AOA or NCCPA): A physician is presumed compliant for one registration if, in the preceding 36 months, they became board certified/recertified by ABMS/AOA/AMA/BOS. MOC/OCC participation can satisfy hour totals but does not waive the required ethics, pain/opioid, or human-trafficking items. Texas Medical Board
---
Controlled substance / Opioid prescribing: At least 2 formal hours each cycle must address pain management and prescription of opioids/controlled substances (best practices, safe prescribing, standards of care, communication, and monitoring). Texas Medical Board
---
DEA or PMP enrollment: Under Texas law, prescribers must check the Texas Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP) before prescribing opioids, benzodiazepines, barbiturates, or carisoprodol (limited exceptions apply). Texas Medical Board+1

I appreciate the convenience of the course being online and accessible through my phone and that it directly reports to CEBroker to support mandated education requirements.
I really loved this information. I was hospitalized last year for almost a month and I noticed multiple medical errors (not being hooked up to my IV multiple times, given wrong medication which caused my sodium to be very low, etc.) which lengthened my stay. I can now define those exact errors and better understand what happened to me. I hate that these medical errors are so common and I appreciate how well laid out your breakdown and categorization of them was.
