Colorado Medical Doctor Renewal Requirements: Colorado physicians renew on a fixed biennial schedule—April 30 of odd-numbered years. DPO Colorado Beginning with renewals on/after Jan 1, 2026 (first affecting the April 30, 2027 renewal), MDs must complete 30 hours of Board-recognized CME in the prior 24 months, while continuing to complete 2 hours per cycle in substance-use prevention/treatment. First-time renewal: The Board may waive the 30-hour CME requirement for a physician’s first renewal if the physician was initially licensed within 12 months after completing a Board-approved internship or postgraduate training; a 6-month extension may also be granted when needed.
