Minimum 60 hours (40%) must be formal CME programs; up to 90 hours (60%) may be informal CME activities. All may be Category 1 if desired. The state enforces specific CME topics, including sexual harassment prevention, implicit bias, dementia recognition, cultural competency, and opioid prescribing for those with controlled substance licenses. Physicians working with children must fulfill mandated reporter training upon employment and renew it every six years. Compliance is monitored through attestation and random audits by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR).
