HOW MANY CE HOURS DO ARKANSAS PHYSICIANS NEED?
Arkansas physicians need 20 credit hours of continuing medical education every year, with at least half — 10 credits — in Category 1 activities in the physician's primary practice area ( 17 CAR § 140-1101 — Continuing Medical Education, Code of Arkansas Rules ). You may complete all 40 hours online with an on-demand Complete Arkansas Medical Doctor CME Package.
Arkansas runs an individualized annual cycle anchored to your birth month: the CME reporting period runs from your birth month of the previous year through your birth month of the current year ( Arkansas State Medical Board — Frequently Asked Questions ).
WHICH CE TOPICS ARE REQUIRED FOR ARKANSAS PHYSICIANS?
Every physician must complete 1 credit hour every year specifically on the prescribing of opioids and benzodiazepines , counted within the 20-credit total ( 17 CAR § 140-1101 — Continuing Medical Education, Code of Arkansas Rules ).
Physicians holding a DEA registration must also complete a one-time 8-hour DEA MATE Training on Opioid or Substance Use Disorder , per the federal MATE Act — not an Arkansas Board mandate ( DEA Diversion Control Division — MATE Act Training FAQ ).
