How many CME hours do Arkansas physicians need?
Arkansas physicians need 20 credit hours of continuing medical education every year, with at least half — 10 credits — in Category 1 activities in the physician's primary area of practice ( 17 CAR § 140-1101 — Continuing Medical Education, Code of Arkansas Rules ). You may complete all 20 hours online with an on-demand Complete Arkansas Medical Doctor CME Package.
Arkansas runs an individualized annual cycle anchored to the physician's birth month, with the CME reporting period running from the birth month of the previous year through the birth month of the current year ( Arkansas State Medical Board — Frequently Asked Questions ). The license itself must be renewed on or before midnight of the last day of that birth month; the Board provides no grace period, and a license that lapses can only be reinstated by paying a $50 late fee ( Arkansas State Medical Board — Frequently Asked Questions ).
Which CME courses or topics are required for Arkansas physicians?
Every physician must complete 1 credit hour every year specifically on the prescribing of opioids and benzodiazepines , counted within the 20-credit total rather than owed on top of it ( 17 CAR § 140-1101 — Continuing Medical Education, Code of Arkansas Rules ).
Physicians who apply for or renew a DEA registration must make a one-time attestation of eight hours of qualifying substance use disorder training , unless another statutory qualification applies.
