Course Features
What you'll learn
At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:
Differentiate measles from other febrile rash illnesses using clinical, oral, exposure, and vaccination findings, including modified or breakthrough presentations.
Implement, within professional scope and authorization, immediate source control, airborne precautions, diagnostic-testing workflows, referral, public-health reporting, and exposure-management procedures for suspected measles.
Determine, according to professional role and authorization, appropriate MMR vaccination and postexposure prophylaxis workflows based on documented evidence of immunity, including medication-safety verification and escalation of discrepancies.
Coordinate role-appropriate supportive care, monitoring, medication safety, patient education, dental-setting precautions, and escalation for measles complications, treatment questions, and vaccine hesitancy.
Course description
Measles is again a working diagnosis in United States healthcare rather than a historical one. Confirmed cases have climbed each year since 2023; the large majority are outbreak-associated, and the interval between a patient's arrival and the first suspicion of measles is where transmission can occur. This course prepares interprofessional healthcare teams to shorten that interval. It reviews the epidemiology behind the resurgence; prodromal, cutaneous, and oral findings that support recognition; and the milder presentations seen in partially immune patients. It then addresses role-appropriate responses across medical, nursing, pharmacy, and dental settings, including source control, airborne precautions, diagnostic-testing workflows, immediate public-health notification, exposure investigation, immunity assessment, MMR vaccination, postexposure prophylaxis, medication safety, and occupational-health management. The course closes with supportive management, complication monitoring, vitamin A and other treatment questions, patient education, and communication with vaccine-hesitant families. Case studies and knowledge checks distinguish independent clinical decisions from nursing, pharmacy, dental, technical, and supportive responsibilities so that learners can translate measles guidance into actions appropriate to their professional role.

I appreciate the convenience of the course being online and accessible through my phone and that it directly reports to CEBroker to support mandated education requirements.
I really loved this information. I was hospitalized last year for almost a month and I noticed multiple medical errors (not being hooked up to my IV multiple times, given wrong medication which caused my sodium to be very low, etc.) which lengthened my stay. I can now define those exact errors and better understand what happened to me. I hate that these medical errors are so common and I appreciate how well laid out your breakdown and categorization of them was.
