Renewal Requirements

Next Renewal Date:April 1 - Every 4 years
Total Hours Required:0 Hours
Required Courses:

  • No general CE hour requirement. However, APRNs who hold an active DEA registration and authority to prescribe Schedule II drugs must complete 3 hours of opioid/substance-use/addiction-related CE each renewal cycle.

  • First-time renewal: Newly certified APRNs must still show 960 practice hours or a recent APRN degree within 5 years, hold an Arizona or compact RN license, and maintain national certification.

  • Certification alternative: Arizona requires you to keep an active national APRN certification (RNP, CNS, CNM, or CRNA). That certification itself is part of your renewal proof, and the APRN certificate expires if the national certification expires first.

  • Other CE Options: To satisfy continued competency you may meet one of these pathways (last 5 years):

    • ≥ 960 hours APRN practice;

    • Graduated from an APRN program;

    • Completed an AZBN-approved refresher course;

    • Earned an additional advanced nursing degree.
