How many CE hours do California dentists need?

California dentists need 50 units of CE every 2 years and renew by the last day of their birth month ( Dental Board of California, CE requirements ; 16 CCR 1016 ). Your first renewal after licensure is exempt from CE. No more than 8 units per day count. You can complete the online portion with the California dentist CE package .

Which CE topics are required for California dentists?

Every renewal you need 2 units of California Infection Control , 2 units of the California Dental Practice Act , 2 units of Schedule II Opioid Prescribing, and up to 4 units of Basic Life Support. These three mandatory courses must come from a provider the Dental Board of California has approved for that specific course. AchieveCE is a Dental Board of California Registered Provider (permit RP 5822) for the Infection Control and Dental Practice Act courses. Basic Life Support must include a live in-person skills session ( 16 CCR 1016 ). DEA registrants also complete the one-time DEA MATE training . Does California accept AGD PACE credit?

Yes, for general CE. The Dental Board accepts courses from AGD PACE and ADA CERP approved providers as well as Board-registered providers. AchieveCE is an AGD PACE approved provider . The mandatory courses above are the exception and need the Board's course-specific approval.

Does California audit dentist CE?

Yes. California dentists self-certify at renewal and do not report to a tracking system. The Board audits licensees at random every month, so keep your certificates for 3 renewal periods.
