Course Features
What you'll learn
At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:
Differentiate the five life-course stages of cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic syndrome using the staging criteria of the AHA/ACC/ADA/ASN guideline.
Identify the components and intervals of guideline-recommended metabolic and kidney assessment, including when paired estimated glomerular filtration rate and urine albumin-to-creatinine ratio testing is indicated.
Select the appropriate PREVENT equation, time horizon, and decision threshold for a given patient scenario.
Analyze treatment decisions across cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic stages by integrating predicted risk, expected absolute benefit, and patient-specific risk enhancers.
Identify criteria for interdisciplinary referral and team-based care coordination for patients at higher cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic stages.
Course description
This 3-hour interprofessional activity addresses cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic syndrome under the 2026 AHA/ACC/ADA/ASN guideline. It responds to persistent gaps in integrated staging, albuminuria assessment, risk estimation, and coordinated management across cardiovascular, kidney, and metabolic conditions. Learners will differentiate CKM stages; identify stage-appropriate metabolic and kidney assessment, including when urine albumin-to-creatinine ratio (UACR) testing is indicated; select the appropriate PREVENT (Predicting Risk of Cardiovascular Disease Events) equation, time horizon, and decision threshold; analyze risk- and benefit-based treatment decisions; and identify criteria for interdisciplinary coordination. Content covers screening and staging, kidney assessment, PREVENT-based risk estimation, lifestyle and pharmacologic management, post-initiation monitoring, and stage 4 care.
