State requirements for District of Columbia Physician Assistantss
10 hours in topics designated as public health priorities by the DC Department of Health.
2 hours in cultural competency focusing on patients who identify as LGBTQ.
District of Columbia Physician Assistant Standard Renewal Requirements: DC PAs must complete 100 CME hours every two years, with at least 40 Category 1 and 10% (10 hours) in DC Public Health Priorities, plus 2 hours of LGBTQ cultural competency. Licenses issued on or after June 16, 2024 now expire on the last day of the PA’s birth month; existing licenses transition under the Board’s schedule. Certification alternative (ABMS/AOA or NCCPA): A PA may substitute current NCCPA certification in lieu of the 100 hours; however, the PA must still complete the 2 hours LGBTQ and 10 hours public health priorities to renew.

Controlled substance / Opioid prescribing: DC requires mandatory PDMP queries before prescribing or dispensing an opioid or benzodiazepine for >7 consecutive days, and every 90 days thereafter while treatment continues (with listed exceptions).
