Detailed Breakdown
  • Delaware Physician Assistant Standard Renewal Requirements: Delaware PAs renew every two years by March 31 of odd years and must either maintain current NCCPA certification or complete 100 CME hours (50 Cat 1/50 Cat 2) per cycle. Those with a Controlled Substance Registration (CSR) must complete 2 hours of controlled-substances–related CE each CSR period, and all PA licensees must complete the 1-hour Mandatory Reporting training before each renewal. See the Board’s Renewal, CE & Audit, and Mandatory Training pages for details.

---

  • First-time renewal: If licensed less than 1 year, no CME is required; if more than 1 year but less than 2 years, 50 hours are required.

---

  • Total CE Hours Required: 100 CME hours each full 2-year licensure period. You may meet this either by maintaining current NCCPA certification or by completing 50 hours Category 1 + 50 hours Category 2 approved by AMA or equivalent AOA courses.

---

  • Certification alternative (ABMS/AOA or NCCPA): Current NCCPA certification satisfies the 100-hour CME requirement in lieu of submitting Category 1/2 hours.

---

  • Controlled substance / Opioid prescribing: Holders of a Delaware Controlled Substance Registration (CSR) must complete 2 hours of CE on controlled-substance prescribing, chronic pain treatment, or related topics each full CSR renewal period; these hours may also count toward practitioner CME if applicable.

---

  • DEA or PMP enrollment: To prescribe controlled substances, a PA must hold a Delaware CSR and then obtain federal DEA registration for Delaware; prescribing PAs report to and use the Delaware PMP as required under 16 Del. C. §4798.

---

  • Human trafficking / Abuse recognition: Mandatory Reporting training (recognizing child sexual/physical abuse, exploitation, and domestic violence, with Delaware-specific reporting obligations) is required before every renewal and must be at least 1 hour.
