About this course

Cannabis Conundrums: Medical vs. Marijuana is a 1-hour continuing education (CE) course designed for healthcare professionals seeking clarity on the medical and recreational uses of cannabis. As legalization expands and public interest grows, providers must be equipped to answer patient questions, evaluate cannabis-related treatments, and navigate evolving state and federal regulations.

This course explores the pharmacology of cannabis, including its primary active components—THC and CBD—and their physiological effects. Participants will examine the current evidence supporting cannabis use for various medical conditions, as well as limitations in existing research. The course also highlights product variability, dosing considerations, and common side effects that clinicians should understand when advising patients.

With a focus on practical application, the course emphasizes the importance of effective provider-patient communication about cannabis use. It also outlines the potential drug interactions and safety concerns that may arise with cannabis, especially in medically complex patients.

Key topics include:

Differences between medical cannabis and recreational marijuana

Pharmacologic properties of THC, CBD, and other cannabinoids

Evidence-based therapeutic uses and emerging research

Legal and regulatory considerations affecting practice

Counseling strategies to guide safe, informed cannabis use

Healthcare professionals completing this course will be better prepared to engage in informed, nonjudgmental conversations with patients about cannabis use. This training supports ethical, compliant, and clinically sound decision-making in a rapidly evolving area of care.

I really loved this information. I was hospitalized last year for almost a month and I noticed multiple medical errors (not being hooked up to my IV multiple times, given wrong medication which caused my sodium to be very low, etc.) which lengthened my stay. I can now define those exact errors and better understand what happened to me. I hate that these medical errors are so common and I appreciate how well laid out your breakdown and categorization of them was.
