Florida Pharmacy Technician Standard Renewal Requirements:
Florida registered pharmacy technicians must renew every two years, with licenses expiring December 31 of even-numbered years. Each biennium requires 20 hours of continuing education: 18 general hours, which may be either ACPE-accredited or Florida Board of Pharmacy approved, and 2 hours of medication error CE, which must be Florida Board approved specifically. As of May 22, 2025, there is no longer a live in-person CE requirement; all CE can be completed online or through home study. Florida Board of Pharmacy PDF .
Registered Pharmacy Technicians (RPTs) who hold an immunization administration certification must complete an additional 2 hours of Board-approved CE each biennium beyond the standard 20. The course must have a curriculum of instruction concerning the safe and effective administration of such vaccines, including, but not limited to, potential allergic reactions to such vaccines (Statute 465.014 )
First-time renewal:
Requirements for the first biennium depend on timing relative to the initial licensure date. If the first renewal occurs less than 12 months after initial licensure, the technician completes only 1 hour of HIV/AIDS and 2 hours of medication errors. If the first renewal occurs 12 months or more after initial licensure, the technician completes 9 general hours, 1 hour of HIV/AIDS, and 2 hours of medication errors.

Verification & Reporting: CE compliance is verified electronically: the Department of Health, Division of Medical Quality Assurance monitors CE compliance through CE Broker at renewal, and submitting renewal fees constitutes the licensee's attestation of compliance with all CE requirements. Technicians should confirm all credits appear in CE Broker before renewing. Failure to renew by the December 31 expiration places the license in delinquent status, and failure to clear delinquency within the following cycle renders the license null and void with no path to reactivation.
