State requirements for Dist. of Columbia Pharmacists
10 Live Hours
2 hours in cultural competency or LGBTQ-focused clinical training
District of Columbia Pharmacist Standard Renewal Requirements- Pharmacists licensed in the District of Columbia must renew their license every two years, aligning the deadline with their birth month and year, and complete 40 hours of continuing education, including at least 10 live hours, 2 hours each in medication errors and cultural competency/LGBTQ topics, and 10% in current public health priority subjects. Immunization-certified pharmacists need an additional 2 hours of CE on immunization and must retain a live (in-person or interactive) CPR certification. Renewal requirements and public health priorities are set forth on the DC Board of Pharmacy site and in regulatory documents .

First-time renewal: Pharmacists renewing for the first time after initial licensure are exempt from continuing education requirements for that first renewal period ( DC Health Municipal Regulation Chapter 65 ).

Controlled substance or opioid CE: At least 10% (4 hours) of CE must be on public health priority topics, which may include opioid management, responsible prescribing, or controlled substances as designated by the Director ( DC Health Municipal Regulation Chapter 65 ).

Immunization practice & CPR: Pharmacists authorized to immunize must complete 2 hours of relevant CE each period and maintain current CPR for healthcare providers ( Board of Pharmacy newsletter ).

Human trafficking / abuse recognition: Public health priority topics may include abuse, neglect, and trafficking training if so designated ( DC Health Municipal Regulation Chapter 65 ).

Cultural competency / implicit bias: Pharmacists must complete 2 hours of CE in cultural competency or LGBTQ-focused clinical training per cycle ( DC Health Municipal Regulation Chapter 65 ).
