State requirements for Wyoming Physician Assistants
1 hour on responsible prescribing of controlled substances or treatment of substance abuse disorders if authorized to prescribe controlled substances
Wyoming Physician Assistant Standard Renewal Requirements: Physician assistants in Wyoming must renew their license annually by December 31 and complete 60 hours of CME every 3 years. PAs authorized to prescribe controlled substances must complete additional CME specifically on responsible prescribing or substance abuse treatment, and DEA-registered PAs have an 8-hour one-time opioid use disorder CME requirement. CME credits must come from ACCME-accredited providers awarding AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™, and maintenance of NCCPA certification satisfies the CME requirement as an alternative. Renewal applications can be submitted online or by paper with appropriate fees
Wyoming Board of Medicine PA Renewal
---
First-time renewal: PAs who have held a Wyoming PA license for less than three years as of the renewal date are not subject to the CME requirement for that cycle.
Wyoming Legislature
---
Certification alternative (ABMS/AOA or NCCPA): Active NCCPA certification in good standing satisfies the CME verification pathway at renewal (includes the ≥60 credits/3 years built into NCCPA’s process).
Wyoming Legislature
---
Controlled substance / Opioid prescribing: If you have prescriptive/dispensing authority and are registered with the Board of Pharmacy to dispense controlled substances, you must complete 3 hours in responsible controlled-substance prescribing or SUD treatment every two years (counts in addition to, and can be used toward, your CME total if within the same 3-year window).
Wyoming Legislature
---
DEA or PMP enrollment: Prescribers must search Wyoming’s PDMP (WORx/PMP AWARxE) before first prescribing Schedule II–V controlled substances and periodically thereafter, as set out in W.S. 35-7-1060 and the Board of Pharmacy guidance.
