State requirements for Georgia Physician Assistants
Georgia Physician Assistant Standard Renewal Requirements: Georgia PAs renew every two years by the last day of their birth-month and must complete 40 hours of Board-approved CME, including ≥10 specialty-specific hours and, if prescribing, ≥3 hours in practice-specific pharmaceuticals. The Board accepts major national Category 1 credit types (AMA, AOA, AAPA, AAFP, AAAA), and may waive CE for documented hardship except for the 3-hour pharmaceuticals component. See GCMB Rules 360-5-.06 and 360-5-.07 for exact requirements. (Rule 360-5-.06; Rule 360-5-.07)
---
First-time renewal: No CE required for the first renewal after initial licensure; however, PAs with prescriptive authority must still complete the 3-hour practice-specific pharmaceuticals CE. (GCMB Rule 360-5-.07(1)(a))
---
Controlled substance / Opioid prescribing: PAs authorized to issue prescription drug orders must complete ≥3 hours biennially in practice-specific pharmaceuticals aligned to their prescription privileges (counts toward total CE). (GCMB Rule 360-5-.07(1))
---
DEA or PMP enrollment: Prescribers must enroll in Georgia’s PDMP (by Jan 1, 2018 or within 30 days of obtaining a DEA registration) and must check the PDMP the first time they prescribe a controlled medication to a patient and at least every 90 days thereafter while treatment continues (with listed exceptions). (GCMB Rule 360-38-.02 • GCMB Rule 360-38-.04)
