State requirements for Kentucky Physician Assistants
7.5 hours in topics such as controlled substance diversion, pain management, addiction disorders, or use of KASPER, per 2-year cycle. (If authorized to prescribe/dispense controlled substances)
12 hours of CE in addiction medicine per 2-year CE cycle. (If authorized to prescribe Buprenorphine (mono-product or with Naloxone)
1.5 hours pediatric abusive head trauma CE in first 2 years of licensure or before first renewal after regulation promulgation.
1 hour HIV/AIDS CE within first 2 years of initial licensure or before first renewal after regulation promulgation.
Kentucky Physician Assistant Standard Renewal Requirements: Kentucky Physician Assistants must renew their licenses biennially by their expiration date, completing 100 hours of CME every two years, all of which must be AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ or equivalent. Maintaining current certification through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) is required, and evidence of such certification must be provided during renewal. Additionally, PAs must complete a one-time pediatric abusive head trauma training as mandated by state law. The Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure monitors compliance and renewal processing.
