  • First-time Renewal: Pharmacy technicians are exempt from CE requirements during their first renewal period following initial registration, including the first renewal after completing a technician program.

  • Certifications: South Carolina offers two tiers:

    • Registered Pharmacy Technician: Standard license—no national certification required.

    • State-Certified Pharmacy Technician: Requires PTCB or NHA certification, completion of an approved training program, and 1,000 hours of supervised practice; this is not mandatory for renewal but provides additional scope.

  • Immunization for Those Who Administer: Technicians are not authorized to administer immunizations, so no immunization CE or certification is required.

  • Sedation Certification: There is no sedation certification pathway for pharmacy technicians in South Carolina.
