Renewal Requirements

Next Renewal Date:Based on birth month
Total Hours Required:0 Hours
Required Courses:None
  • First-time renewal: Whether it’s your very first renewal or a later one, you’ll simply log in to the NYSED Online Registration Renewal portal, pay the $100 registration fee, and attest to good standing—no CE uploads are requested.

  • Certification rule: National certification is required for initial licensure (PTCB® or ExCPT®), but the Board’s FAQ makes clear it is not required to keep your New York registration active. Still, maintaining the credential is the Board-recommended path to prove ongoing competence under Regents Rule §29.1(b)(9).

  • Immunization authority: New York currently does not authorize registered pharmacy technicians to give routine vaccines under state law. Technicians may participate in COVID-19 vaccinations only while the federal PREP Act remains in force—after completing ACPE-accredited immunization training, current CPR, and working under a pharmacist’s direct supervision. Two bills (A 5152A / S 7025) now before the Legislature would permanently grant techs full vaccine-administration authority.
