Renewal Requirements

Next Renewal Date:March 31, 2026
Total Hours Required:0 Hours
Required Courses:None
  • First-time renewal: Newly registered technicians simply renew by March 31 and pay the $25 fee; there are no first-cycle CE hours to earn.

  • Certification status: You may work as a regular Kentucky pharmacy technician without national certification. If you want the Board’s “Certified Pharmacy Technician” designation (needed for certain advanced duties), you must hold a current PTCB CPhT or NHA ExCPT certificate.

  • Immunization authority (201 KAR 2:420): A technician can give vaccines under a pharmacist’s general supervision only when all three boxes are checked:

    • Training + CPR: Complete an ACPE-accredited, hands-on immunization course and keep a current CPR/BLS card.

    • Extra CE: Log 2 hours of ACPE immunization-related CE every registration period (this is the only CE Kentucky requires of techs).

    • Protocol: Follow the pharmacy’s written vaccination protocol; the supervising pharmacist must be immediately available.
