First-time renewal: New Tennessee techs follow the same two-year schedule as everyone else: renew in your birth-month-of-licensure + two years through the LARS portal, pay the $95 fee, and you’re done—no continuing-education uploads are necessary.

Certification: The Board does not require national PTCB® or ExCPT® certification for registration or renewal. Even if you pass an exam, you must still keep a Tennessee registration active.

Immunization & point-of-care duties: Under the rule package adopted Feb 27 2025, a certified pharmacy technician (CPhT) may:

1. Administer FDA-authorized vaccines after – ACPE- or Board-approved hands-on injection training, – current CPR (basic CPR now accepted), and – 2 hours of immunization-specific CE every biennial renewal cycle.

2. Perform CLIA-waived tests after similar practical training plus 2 hours of point-of-care-testing CE each cycle. All services must occur under a pharmacist’s immediate supervision, and the supervising pharmacist remains responsible for documentation and adverse-event management.
