Pain Management for Healthcare Professionals
Learn pain and symptom management tailored to your healthcare field. Identify different pain types and choose optimal treatment approaches in this course.
About this course
Pain, according to the Institute of Medicine (IOM), is a public health problem. The IOM reports pain affects at least 100 million adults – and that figure does not include those in the military, prisons, or long-term care facilities. Nor does it include children. The annual cost to society is estimated between $560 and $635 billion annually. Yet pain is often under-treated and some people must deal with pain on a daily basis. Even when treated, medication side effects and the risk of addiction are common issues. While nurses – with the exception of advanced practice registered nurses – do not prescribe for pain conditions, they face many challenges in helping people who have both acute and chronic pain.
