2 hours in Nursing Jurisprudence/Ethics every third renewal.
2 hours in Human Trafficking Prevention (every renewal, required by law)
2 hours in Geriatric Care (if working with older adults)
2 hours in Forensic Evidence Collection (one-time requirement, only for ER nurses)
5 hours in Pharmacotherapeutics each cycle (APRNs with prescriptive authority)
2 hours in Safe/Effective Pain Management and either Opioid Prescribing or Controlled Substances Management annually (if prescribing opioids). bon.texas.gov
Texas APRN Standard Renewal Requirements: Texas APRNs must renew every two years, by the end of their birth month, completing 20 hours of board-approved CE in their specialty or maintaining national certification. APRNs with prescriptive authority need 5 hours in pharmacotherapeutics each renewal, and those prescribing opioids must complete 2 hours each year on pain management . Additional mandatory courses apply for controlled substances , jurisprudence , human trafficking , and forensic evidence for some advanced practice nurses ( Texas Board of Nursing ; 22 Tex. Admin. Code § 216.3 ).

Certification alternative: Maintaining a current, Board-recognized national certification for the APRN’s population focus fulfills the renewal CE requirement ( Texas Board of Nursing ).
