Celiac Disease Across the Lifespan: A Guide in Clinical Practice

Celiac disease is a systemic autoimmune disorder triggered by gluten ingestion in genetically susceptible individuals, affecting approximately 1% of the population worldwide. Its clinical manifestations extend beyond classic gastrointestinal symptoms to include extraintestinal presentations such as anemia, osteoporosis, infertility, liver dysfunction, and neurologic complications. Despite advances in diagnostic tools, the majority of cases remain undiagnosed or are misattributed to functional disorders, leading to significant delays in care. Recent guidelines emphasize the importance of accurate serologic testing, appropriate biopsy techniques, and lifelong dietary management. This course equips healthcare professionals with current, evidence-based knowledge to recognize both typical and atypical presentations, differentiate celiac disease from other gluten-related conditions, and implement effective, patient-centered management strategies—including addressing adherence challenges, psychosocial impacts, and long-term complications.
