Celiac disease is a systemic autoimmune disorder triggered by gluten ingestion in genetically susceptible individuals, affecting approximately 1% of the population worldwide. Its clinical manifestations extend beyond classic gastrointestinal symptoms to include extraintestinal presentations such as anemia, osteoporosis, infertility, liver dysfunction, and neurologic complications. Despite advances in diagnostic tools, the majority of cases remain undiagnosed or are misattributed to functional disorders, leading to significant delays in care. Recent guidelines emphasize the importance of accurate serologic testing, appropriate biopsy techniques, and lifelong dietary management.
