Standard Renewal Requirements

Every New Mexico pharmacist must complete 30 hours (3.0 CEU) of continuing education during the 2-year period ending on the last day of their birth month, including at least 10 hours (1.0 CEU, excluding the law requirement) through live ACPE- or ACCME-approved programs, and the remaining 20 hours may be completed through home study or online courses with an accredited package like New Mexico Pharmacist CE Package to satisfy the license renewal. Within the 30 hours, New Mexico pharmacists must complete 2 hours of patient safety CE , 2 hours of New Mexico pharmacy law CE (which must come from a Board-offered program, not just any ACPE-accredited law course), and 2 hours of safe and appropriate opioid use CE , every renewal period. New Mexico pharmacist licenses run on a genuinely individualized cycle, expiring on the last day of the pharmacist’s own birth month every 2 years, rather than a shared statewide date.

Conditional Renewal Requirements

Pharmacists exercising prescriptive authority for vaccines must complete 2 hours of live vaccine-related CE, on top of the standard 30-hour requirement, every 2 years. 16.19.26.9 NMAC

Pharmacists exercising prescriptive authority for tobacco cessation drug therapy must complete 2 hours of tobacco cessation CE, on top of the standard 30-hour requirement, every 2 years. 16.19.26.10 NMAC

Pharmacists exercising prescriptive authority for naloxone must complete 2 hours of live naloxone/opioid overdose CE, on top of the standard 30-hour requirement, every 2 years. 16.19.26.12 NMAC

Pharmacists exercising prescriptive authority for hormonal contraception must complete 2 hours of live hormonal contraception CE, on top of the standard 30-hour requirement, every 2 years. 16.19.26.13 NMAC

Pharmacists exercising point-of-care testing/formulary drug therapy prescriptive authority must complete 2 hours of live formulary drug therapy CE, on top of the standard 30-hour requirement, every 2 years. 16.19.26.14 NMAC

First-Time Requirements

Pharmacists granted initial New Mexico licensure are exempt from continuing education for their first license period. 16.19.4.10(E) NMAC

Verification and Reporting

New Mexico pharmacists must maintain an NABP e-Profile and use CPE Monitor to document completed hours. At least 10% of New Mexico pharmacists are randomly selected each year by the Board for an audit of continuing education certificates by state drug inspectors. Pharmacists without sufficient documentation of CPE completion are subject to a fine of not less than $1,000. 16.19.4.10(F) NMAC
