State requirements for Vermont Doctor of Osteopathic Medicines
2 hours of CME on safe prescribing of controlled substances
Vermont Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Standard Renewal Requirements: Vermont DO licenses renew every two years on September 30 of even years. To renew, DOs must complete 30 hours of CME in the two-year period, with ≥40% being osteopathic medical education, and the CME must be approved by the AOA or an equivalent organization approved by the Board. DOs who hold/apply for a DEA registration or who dispense controlled substances must also complete 2 hours of controlled-substance CE that counts toward the 30-hour total. See the OPR Fees & Dates chart, 26 V.S.A. § 1836, and the Board’s osteopathic rules. Vermont Outside+3Vermont Outside+3Vermont General Assembly+3
---
First-time renewal: The osteopathic rules apply the same CME framework; the statute requires 30 hours in the preceding two years with ≥40% osteopathic—there is no explicit first-time exemption stated in the osteopathic rules/statute. No information found on this requirement from the state board site. Vermont Outside+1
---
Certification alternative (ABMS/AOA or NCCPA): The rule specifies CME approved by the AOA or a successor/equivalent organization approved by the Board; no separate “board-certification-in-lieu-of-CME” pathway is stated. No information found on this requirement from the state board site. Vermont Outside
---
Controlled substance / Opioid prescribing: If you hold or have applied for a DEA registration, or dispense controlled substances, complete ≥2 hours of controlled-substances CE each renewal; upload documentation with your renewal. Vermont Outside
---
DEA or PMP enrollment: Vermont law separately requires prescribers of controlled substances to register for and use VPMS in specified situations; verify current VPMS obligations with the Department of Health. Vermont Outside

I am always interested in continuing education in the areas of health, wellness, nutrition and mental health. Your course was well written, well organized and helpful in meeting state licensure requirements.
Very well written, easy to digest, time efficient, and straight to the point. Thank you!
I appreciate the convenience of the course being online and accessible through my phone and that it directly reports to CEBroker to support mandated education requirements.
I really loved this information. I was hospitalized last year for almost a month and I noticed multiple medical errors (not being hooked up to my IV multiple times, given wrong medication which caused my sodium to be very low, etc.) which lengthened my stay. I can now define those exact errors and better understand what happened to me. I hate that these medical errors are so common and I appreciate how well laid out your breakdown and categorization of them was.
I am always looking for concise ,thorough, and up to date continuing education, and this course provided exactly what I was looking for. Thank you
Enjoyed this course! It squarely met my license renewal requirement as a physician. It was well-written, and an altogether enjoyable read.
