Tennessee osteopathic physicians must complete 40 hours of Board-approved continuing medical education during the 24 months preceding their license expiration date; renewals are biennial and tied to the license expiration date. CME must consist of courses approved in AOA Category 1-A, 2-A, or 1-B. Tennessee requires at least 2 hours in Controlled Substance Prescribing, which must include content based on the Tennessee Department of Health guidelines for opioids, benzodiazepines, barbiturates, and carisoprodol.
