I am always interested in continuing education in the areas of health, wellness, nutrition and mental health. Your course was well written, well organized and helpful in meeting state licensure requirements.

I really loved this information. I was hospitalized last year for almost a month and I noticed multiple medical errors (not being hooked up to my IV multiple times, given wrong medication which caused my sodium to be very low, etc.) which lengthened my stay. I can now define those exact errors and better understand what happened to me. I hate that these medical errors are so common and I appreciate how well laid out your breakdown and categorization of them was.

Additional information

How many CE hours do Nevada osteopathic physicians need?

Nevada regulates MDs and DOs under separate boards. For the renewal now on the books — due December 31, 2026 — osteopathic physicians need 35 hours of continuing education each year, of which at least 10 hours must be Category 1-A courses accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), and at least 2 hours must address the misuse or abuse of controlled substances, opioid prescribing, or addiction ( NAC 633.250 ; NRS 633.471 ). Renewal falls annually, on or before January 1 of each year — the Board lists the corresponding license expiration as December 31 of the prior year.

A larger change is coming, but not yet. Assembly Bill 56 (2025 Nevada Legislature, Chapter 18, Statutes of Nevada 2025) moves osteopathic physicians to a 40-hour, 2-year (biennial) requirement, doubles the Category 1-A minimum to 20 hours, doubles the substance-abuse/opioid minimum to 4 hours, and moves the renewal deadline to December 31 of each even-numbered year, alongside a fee increase from $350 (annual) to $700 (biennial). The Board's own proposed implementing regulation, LCB File R092-25 , states plainly that the current 35-hour/annual figures apply "before December 31, 2026" and the new 40-hour/biennial figures apply "after December 31, 2026," with the physician CME provision (Section 2 of R092-25) not taking legal effect until January 1, 2027 ( R092-25 ; Combined Notice of Intent ).

In practice: the renewal due December 31, 2026 is still the current 35-hour rule. The next renewal after that — due December 31, 2028 — is the first one expected to fall under the new 40-hour biennial rule. As of this check, R092-25 remains a proposed/draft regulation rather than a formally adopted one — the codified NAC 633.250 text is still unchanged — so the exact figures could still move before they take effect; confirm again as the 2027 cycle approaches.

Which CE topics are required for Nevada osteopathic physicians?

Every osteopathic physician must complete 2 hours relating to the misuse or abuse of controlled substances, the prescribing of opioids, or addiction, each year ( NAC 633.250 ).

Separately, each physician must attest — no later than 2 years after initial licensure, and at least once every 4 years thereafter — to having received instruction on evidence-based suicide prevention and awareness. This is an ongoing attestation tied to its own clock, not a fixed number of CE hours ( NAC 633.250 ; NRS 633.471 ).

At least 10 of the 35 total hours must be Category 1-A courses — accredited by the AOA or the ACCME — which is a credit-type distribution rule that any qualifying course can satisfy, not a separate subject-matter topic ( NAC 633.250 ).

Osteopathic physicians holding a DEA registration must also complete a one-time 8-hour DEA MATE Act training on the treatment and management of patients with opioid or other substance use disorders — a federal requirement, not a Nevada Board mandate ( DEA Diversion Control Division — MATE Act Training FAQ ).

Coming January 1, 2027: under the proposed R092-25 regulation, the Category 1-A minimum doubles to 20 hours and the substance-abuse/opioid minimum doubles to 4 hours, within the new 40-hour biennial total (see the hours section above for the full timing).

Do newly licensed Nevada osteopathic physicians need CE for their first renewal?

Yes. The 35-hour annual requirement applies starting with a newly licensed osteopathic physician's first renewal under NAC 633.250 . The suicide-prevention and awareness attestation runs on its own separate clock, independent of the renewal cycle: it must be completed no later than 2 years after initial licensure, and then again at least once every 4 years ( NAC 633.250 ; NRS 633.471 ).

Does the Nevada State Board of Osteopathic Medicine audit CE records?

Yes, but as self-reported proof at renewal, not a separate audit process. Each osteopathic physician "shall provide to the Board any certificates of completion or other proof satisfactory to the Board" demonstrating completion of the required hours when applying to renew ( NAC 633.250 ). The Board does not publish a separate CE-audit rate or describe a post-renewal spot-check process.

Marketing Value

Pending rule change — a real, time-sensitive content hook: Nevada's currently licensed osteopathic physicians are about to face a bigger CE lift, but most don't know it yet. Starting with the renewal cycle that begins January 1, 2027, the state's proposed regulation (LCB File R092-25) would raise the total from 35 to 40 hours every 2 years, double the Category 1-A minimum from 10 to 20 hours, double the substance-abuse/opioid minimum from 2 to 4 hours, and raise the renewal fee from $350 (annual) to $700 (biennial). Because the change is still in proposed/draft status, and its "before/after December 31, 2026" framing is genuinely easy to misread, there's a differentiated, timely content angle available now — "get ahead of Nevada's 2027 CME increase" — months before most competitor CE pages are likely to catch up to it, and well before Nevada DOs start seeing it reflected on their renewal notices.

Licensee data roster: The Board offers a free public individual license-lookup/verification search (bom.nv.gov's licensee-search page, backed by its Thentia-hosted licensing portal) — useful for one-off verification, not for building an outreach list. Unlike its sibling Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners, which sells a dedicated $75 bulk "Physician List" via a standing mail/fax order form, bom.nv.gov publishes no equivalent self-serve bulk licensee-list or mailing-list order form for osteopathic physicians; the only bulk-data mechanism identified is the Board's general Public Records Request form, meaning bulk roster access — if the Board grants it at all — likely runs through Nevada's standard public-records process rather than a dedicated paid product. Large parts of bom.nv.gov's site could not be reached this pass, so a follow-up pull directly against the Board's fee schedule would be needed to fully rule out a dedicated osteopathic-specific list-order form.

CE Provider / Approved Provider program: bom.nv.gov does not run a CE-provider application process or publish a directory of state-approved CE providers. As with the sibling MD file, CE approval is delegated to national accreditation (AOA Category 1-A / ACCME) rather than a Board-maintained provider registry, so there is no state-level directory for AchieveCE to apply to or get backlinked from.

DO-specific channel (genuine finding, distinct from the MD file): The Nevada Osteopathic Medical Association (NOMA), a professional association separate from the Board, runs its own "CME Online" portal selling AOA Category 1-B credit at $125 per credit-hour, capped at up to 25 hours toward a Nevada osteopathic physician's total. This is a real, DO-specific competitor/comparable channel and a useful competitive-positioning data point — a materially higher per-hour price point than a typical AchieveCE course — separate from anything on the MD file.
