What you'll learn
At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:
Define insomnia and recognize at least 3 associated biopsychosocial consequences (e.g., functional impairment, work absenteeism, increased depression/anxiety).
Discuss CBT-I from a theory- and evidence-based perspective along with its proven utility as a non-pharmacologic treatment of insomnia.
Identify the 4 behavioral and 4 cognitive components of CBT-I and incorporate these strategies into the treatment of patients with primary, as well as secondary, insomnia.
Course description
Insomnia is the second most common chronic health problem in the United States, following only behind chronic pain. The elevated prevalence of insomnia, its associated adverse consequences, and dissatisfaction with pharmacotherapy have led to a high level of interest in nonpharmacologic treatments. Cognitive-behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) is one safe and effective nonpharmacological alternative. As a multimodal approach, CBT-I targets the behavioral and psychological factors that initiate and maintain insomnia. CBT-I has been shown to be effective in treating insomnia in several different populations and with several comorbid medical and psychiatric illnesses. This online course will describe the behavioral and cognitive techniques used in CBT-I, as well as review the current literature on its efficacy. Practitioner considerations will also be addressed.

I appreciate the convenience of the course being online and accessible through my phone and that it directly reports to CEBroker to support mandated education requirements.
I really loved this information. I was hospitalized last year for almost a month and I noticed multiple medical errors (not being hooked up to my IV multiple times, given wrong medication which caused my sodium to be very low, etc.) which lengthened my stay. I can now define those exact errors and better understand what happened to me. I hate that these medical errors are so common and I appreciate how well laid out your breakdown and categorization of them was.
