2 hours of Pain & Symptom Management each cycle.
Implicit Bias Training – 1 hour for each year of the license cycle (typically 2 hrs per biennium).
One-time Human-Trafficking Training (must be completed before the first renewal if not already done).
Michigan Registered Nurse Standard Renewal Requirements: Michigan Registered Nurses must renew their license every two years by March 31 and complete 25 contact hours of continuing education approved by the Board. Of these hours, at least 2 must be focused on pain and symptom management . Additionally, nurses are required to complete a one-time human trafficking training and ongoing implicit bias training as part of their renewal. Nurses are responsible for maintaining their own CE records as random audits are conducted ( Michigan Board of Nursing ).

First-time renewal: Nurses initially licensed on or after May 8, 2024, must complete all CE requirements including implicit bias training before their first renewal ( Michigan Board of Nursing ).

Certification alternative: While specialty certifications may be recognized, all RNs must complete the required CE hours for license renewal ( Michigan Board of Nursing ).
