State requirements for New Mexico Licensed Practical Nurses
New Mexico Licensed Practical Nurse Standard Renewal Requirements: New Mexico LPNs must renew their licenses every two years and document completion of 30 contact hours of Board-approved continuing education for each renewal cycle. There are no in-person, mandatory topic, or sub-category hour requirements. LPNs may also meet the CE requirement by maintaining a current nationally recognized certification instead of 30 CE hours. For full instructions, visit the
New Mexico Board of Nursing.
---
First-time renewal: New Mexico LPNs must complete 30 CE hours for both initial and subsequent renewals; there are no first-time-only exemptions
---
Certification alternative: Maintaining a current national certification in practical nursing can be used instead of the 30 contact hours for license renewal
---
Other Certifications that nurses hold that needs to be renewed: Any additional specialty or IV certifications must be maintained separately from Board renewal, per employer or certifying authority policy.
