Clinical Supervision Essentials: Compliance, Competency, and Client-Centered Care: 4-Hour Supervisor Training Course

At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:

1. Analyze the major evidence-based models of clinical supervision and how they guide the supervisory role, focus, and level of structure appropriate to a supervisee's developmental stage.

2. Evaluate the ethical, legal, and regulatory responsibilities of the clinical supervisor, including vicarious and direct liability, dual-level informed consent, and documentation of supervisory sessions.

3. Evaluate the confidentiality, security, and jurisdictional requirements of technology-assisted supervision and of teletherapy, including cross-state practice and interstate compacts.

4. Design culturally responsive supervision and evidence-informed responses to common supervisory challenges that strengthen the working alliance, support supervisee disclosure, and protect client welfare.

5. Develop the business and accountability structures of ethical supervision, including supervision agreements, accurate representation of credentials, liability coverage, and professional boundaries.

Clinical supervision is a distinct professional competency with ethical, legal, regulatory, relational, and documentation responsibilities that extend beyond direct clinical practice. This course examines evidence-based supervision models, supervisor and supervisee accountability, informed consent, liability, documentation, culturally responsive supervision, electronic supervision, teletherapy, cross-jurisdictional practice, professional boundaries, and the business structures supporting an ethical supervisory relationship. Learners will strengthen their ability to select appropriate supervisory approaches, evaluate risk and competence, maintain effective documentation, manage supervisory challenges, and protect client welfare.

This course addresses the gap created when experienced clinicians enter supervisory roles without sufficient preparation in supervision as a separate discipline. It also responds to changing Florida regulations, expanding use of remote supervision and teletherapy, cross-state practice concerns, supervisee nondisclosure, and documented reports of inadequate or harmful supervision. Current, practical guidance is needed to help supervisors meet these evolving responsibilities while supporting supervisee development and client safety.

This course is intended for recurring qualified-supervisor continuing education and does not satisfy the separate 12-clock-hour live course required for initial qualified-supervisor eligibility under Rule 64B4-6.0025(2)–(3), F.A.C.
