District of Columbia Physical Therapist Assistant Standard Renewal Requirements: Physical Therapist Assistants in the District of Columbia must renew their license biennially by January 31 of odd-numbered years, completing 30 continuing education hours within the two-year cycle. At least half of the CE hours (15 hours) must be earned through live, synchronous, interactive programs. Additionally, 10% of the total hours (3 hours) must cover public health priorities, including 2 hours devoted to LGBTQ awareness. Flexible CE options including academic coursework and professional activities are allowed. The first renewal cycle exempts newly licensed PTAs from CE requirements. These requirements are outlined in the Board of Physical Therapy’s official 2025 renewal notification
