Standard CE Renewal Requirements
Every Texas registered pharmacy technician must complete 20 hours of continuing education every 2 years to satisfy renewal, of which no more than 5 hours may come from workplace in-service training. Texas pharmacy technician registrations renew on an individualized biennial cycle tied to the technician’s own anniversary month of original registration, which is a different anchor than the birth-month cycle used for pharmacists. Within the 20 hours, Texas requires 1 hour of Texas-specific pharmacy law and a human trafficking prevention course each renewal period, all 20 hours may be completed through home study or online courses with an accredited package like Texas Pharmacy Technician CE Package . National certification through PTCB or NHA’s ExCPT no longer exempts pharmacy technicians from Texas Board of Pharmacy continuing education requirements or random audit.

Conditional CE Renewal Requirements
Continuing education earned to maintain a sterile-compounding certification counts toward the standard 20-hour renewal total rather than in addition to it. 22 Tex. Admin. Code § 297.8

First-Time CE Requirements
A newly registered pharmacy technician is exempt from most continuing education during their initial registration period, except the human trafficking prevention course, from which new registrants are explicitly not exempt. 22 Tex. Admin. Code § 297.8

Verification and Reporting
Texas pharmacy technicians must retain their own continuing education records for 3 years and self-attest to completion on the renewal application; failure to produce records on request is treated as evidence of a violation, and registration will not be renewed if continuing education is not reported. 22 Tex. Admin. Code § 297.8

I was hospitalized last year for almost a month and I noticed multiple medical errors (not being hooked up to my IV multiple times, given wrong medication which caused my sodium to be very low, etc.) which lengthened my stay. I can now define those exact errors and better understand what happened to me.
