Hawaii Medical Doctor Standard Renewal Requirements: Hawaii MD licenses renew on a two-year cycle, due January 31 of even-numbered years, with the next renewal on January 31, 2026. Physicians must complete 40 hours of Category 1 or 1-A CME each biennium, and online CME is acceptable. See the Hawaii Medical Board’s renewal schedule and CME audit guidance for details ( Board renewal page ; 2023 MD CME audit memo). DCCA
First-time renewal: If initially licensed in the first year of the biennium, the Board has historically required 20 Category 1/1-A hours for the initial renewal before moving to 40 hours in subsequent cycles ( 2022 MD CME audit memo ). DCCA
Certification alternative (ABMS/AOA or NCCPA): For MDs, the Board will accept meeting a specialty board or medical society’s CME requirements if they are equal to or greater than the Board’s; however, certification by itself does not satisfy CME (documentation required) ( 2022 MD CME audit memo ). Controlled substance / Opioid prescribing: No board-mandated opioid CME is listed for MDs. Separate from CME, Hawaii law requires prescribers to consult the HI-PDMP (ePAS) before prescribing certain Schedule II–IV controlled substances ( HI PDMP FAQ – State of Hawaii ). dcr.hawaii.gov
DEA or PMP enrollment: To obtain or renew a Hawaii Controlled Substances Registration, practitioners must register with the HI-PDMP first ( HI Controlled Substances Registration Application Instructions ). dcr.hawaii.gov

I can now define those exact errors and better understand what happened to me.
