New Jersey Registered Nurse Standard Renewal Requirements: New Jersey RNs must complete 30 contact hours of continuing education every two years, including 1 hour on opioid drug prescribing and 1 hour on organ and tissue donation and recovery . The remaining hours can be fulfilled with elective courses that meet Board approval. New Jersey RN licenses expire every odd-numbered year on May 31, and CE documentation should be retained for five years in case of audit. I was hospitalized last year for almost a month and I noticed multiple medical errors (not being hooked up to my IV multiple times, given wrong medication which caused my sodium to be very low, etc.) which lengthened my stay. I can now define those exact errors and better understand what happened to me.
