Oregon Licensed Practical Nurse Standard Renewal Requirements: Oregon LPNs renew every two years by their birthday and must attest to 400 hours of practice over the previous two years—otherwise, a combination of practice hours and continuing education is required (600/3yrs + 20 CE or 800/4yrs + 30 CE). Every licensee must complete a one-time 6-hour pain management course at initial licensure, then fulfill a 1-hour pain management and 2-hour cultural competency course at each renewal. I was hospitalized last year for almost a month and I noticed multiple medical errors (not being hooked up to my IV multiple times, given wrong medication which caused my sodium to be very low, etc.) which lengthened my stay. I can now define those exact errors and better understand what happened to me. I hate that these medical errors are so common and I appreciate how well laid out your breakdown and categorization of them was.
