Additional information
  • California Dental Assistant Standard Renewal Requirements: California Registered Dental Assistants and permit holders must complete 25 Board-approved CE units every two years, with at least half taken in live or interactive settings and no more than eight units credited per day. Each cycle must include Board-approved 2-unit courses in California Infection Control and the California Dental Practice Act plus an in-person BLS course (maximum four units). Licenses renew on the last day of the assistant’s birth-month in alternating years, and CE must be earned within the current renewal period. Dental Board of California

---

  • Live / “In-Person” Hour Minimum: No more than 50 % of the required units may be taken as non-live/self-study courses, so at least 12.5 units must be live, interactive instruction. Dental Board of California

---

  • General / Elective Hours: All remaining units after the mandatory topics may be in any Board-accepted subject, provided the 50 % live rule is satisfied. Dental Board of California

---

  • First-time renewal: CE is waived for the first renewal, but RDAs licensed on or after January 1 2010 must complete a Board-approved Pit & Fissure Sealant course before their second renewal. dbc.ca.gov

---

  • Certification alternative: Registered Dental Assistants must attest to completion of CE requirements at each renewal and retain documentation for three renewal periods for audit purposes. Dental Board of California

I really loved this information. I was hospitalized last year for almost a month and I noticed multiple medical errors (not being hooked up to my IV multiple times, given wrong medication which caused my sodium to be very low, etc.) which lengthened my stay. I can now define those exact errors and better understand what happened to me. I hate that these medical errors are so common and I appreciate how well laid out your breakdown and categorization of them was.
