Standard Renewal Requirements
Every Alabama pharmacy technician must complete 6 hours of ACPE-accredited or Board-approved continuing education per 2-year renewal period, to satisfy Alabama pharmacy technician license renewal. At least 2 of the 6 hours must be completed through live attendance , while the remaining 4 hours can be completed online at your own pace with an accredited package like the Alabama Pharmacy Technician Package . All hours must be completed by December 31 of the renewal year. The Alabama State Board of Pharmacy does not mandate specific subject-matter courses for Alabama pharmacy technician CE beyond the live-hour minimum.

Alabama phases in the technician CE requirement based on registration year: a technician first registered in 2026 owes 3 hours (at least 1 live) for their first renewal in 2027, while a technician first registered in 2027 owes no CE for that same first renewal. I was hospitalized last year for almost a month and I noticed multiple medical errors (not being hooked up to my IV multiple times, given wrong medication which caused my sodium to be very low, etc.) which lengthened my stay. I can now define those exact errors and better understand what happened to me.
