Florida Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRN) are rushing to find their CE requirements and meet them on time for their renewal this June 30, 2021. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed when there are so many courses required by the Florida Board of Nursing!
Group 3 of Florida APRNs are due to renew their licenses this June 30, 2021. This deadline extension was granted by State Surgeon General Dr. Scott A. Rivkees in his issued Emergency Order 21-001. The Emergency Order extends the licensure renewal expiration date until June 30, 2021 for any professional license issued by the Department with upcoming licensure renewal deadlines.
With the deadline fast approaching, you don’t need to worry about locating the CEs you’ll need to get. AchieveCE has got you covered. Here are the top CE courses you’ll need to meet the renewal requirements of a Florida APRN:
Medical Errors CE (2 hours)
The Florida Board of Nursing requires a 2-hour course on preventing medical errors for all nurses in the state. Board-approved courses are listed at CEBroker.com.
AchieveCE’s course on Preventing Medical Errors are suitable for a Florida APRN. This CE requirement discusses adverse events, sentinel events, near misses and the role of Root Cause Analysis in preventing this common mistake in the healthcare setting.

Recognizing Workplace Impairment (2 hours)
Florida APRNs are also required to take a 2-hour course on how to identify workplace impairment every other renewal. This course aims to help nurses intervene early to help their fellow nurses who might not be coping well with workplace stressors.
Learn about recognizing workplace impairment to help maintain safety among healthcare providers and patients in this Florida Board-approved CE.
Human Trafficking CE (2 hours)
This is one of the Florida Board of Nursing CE requirements that does not have to be approved by the Board in order to be credited. The Human Trafficking course only needs to meet the criteria outlined in S. 464.013, F.S. by the Florida Department of Health, which requires licensees to complete a Human Trafficking course every renewal.
AchieveCE offers a Board-approved Human Trafficking course that meets Florida’s requirement for discussions on sex trafficking, labor trafficking, identification of possible victims, reporting of cases, and resources for survivors.
Our human trafficking course is grounded in research and expert advice. It also provides great insight from human trafficking survivors and will help you recognize and report potential trafficking situations to guarantee your clients a safe and healthy environment.
Controlled Substances Prescription CE (3 hours)
The safe and effective prescription of controlled substances is a cornerstone in the practice of advanced practice nurses. This is why continuing education on the subject is a requirement for the renewal of Florida APRNs.
A Florida APRN should meet a 3-hour course on the prescription of controlled substances to complete their CE requirements. The course must be offered by a statewide professional association of Florida physicians accredited to provide educational activities designated for the American Medical Association Physician’s Recognition Award Category 1 credit, the American Nurses Credentialing Center, the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists, or the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.
Learn about the best practices in prescribing controlled substances and how to identify and prevent drug misuse in AchieveCE’s online, self-paced CE.
Domestic Violence CE (2 hours)
As with human trafficking, domestic violence is also a situation where nurses can intervene to advocate for patient safety. Advanced practice nurses play an important role to play in their work in hospital and community settings. They can assist victims of abuse and violence in a domestic situation. This is why continuing education in Domestic Violence is a requirement for the renewal of Florida APRNs.
Domestic Violence is required every third biennium and the hours are in addition to the 24 hours required for renewal.
AchieveCE’s domestic violence course is also a Florida-approved course for nurses, and it is also accepted by various State Boards in the country. In this course, the prevalence, categories, signs, and reporting requirements for domestic violence cases are discussed in depth. Check out the course by clicking on the image below:
