Pharmacotherapy 2022: New Drugs for Primary Care
Learn about the latest pharmaceutical agents approved in 2021, their mechanisms, efficacy, side effects, and cost, and how they align with current management guidelines in Ambulatory Care.
About this course
The FDA approved 50 new pharmaceutical agents in 2021 with 54% of them being first in class. This means that over half of new agents entering the market are unfamiliar to healthcare professionals who need to be educated on how they align with current management guidelines as well as the mechanism of action, dosing, side effects, clinical efficacy, and costs. This presentation will review the pharmaceutical agents associated with Ambulatory Care practice models, which account for the majority of those approved in 2021. The discussion will be organized by organ systems allowing the audience to apply this new knowledge to existing management guidelines, such as cardiovascular disease or diabetes. Each pharmaceutical agent presented will include class designation, mechanism of action, dosing, clinical efficacy/place in therapy, side effects, and cost information. At the conclusion of the presentation, there will also be practice recommendations as well as a discussion of how to stay current with practice standards in this fast-paced healthcare environment.
