Kindling The Fire: The Role of Mentorship in Professional Development
Learn the art of purposeful mentorship in healthcare. Explore ideal mentor-mentee traits, ethical principles, and best practices for professional growth.

About this course
Mentorship is the cornerstone of professional growth. Mentorship is foundational to the development of pharmacists and other healthcare professionals who combine advanced skill sets with high character and to the advancement of the healthcare profession as a whole. Mentorship must be a deliberate experience for both the mentor and the mentee. As such, purposeful reflection on mentorship philosophies, characteristics of ideal mentors and mentees, and best practices is warranted. The purpose of this review is to provide a construct for mentorship in the context of a pharmacy and healthcare career, with a focus on the types and benefits of mentoring relationships and discussion of what qualities and practices ‘kindle the fire’ in the minds of the next generation of the healthcare profession. Using the 5 ethical principles of medicine applied to mentorship, the audience will be supplied with the science behind the importance of mentorship and then a construct for “best practices” to being both an ideal mentor and mentee. From there, these principles will be applied to specific cases for discussion and thought in order to enhance an individual’s skills at being a mentor (and a mentee).

I am always interested in continuing education in the areas of health, wellness, nutrition and mental health. Your course was well written, well organized and helpful in meeting state licensure requirements.
Very well written, easy to digest, time efficient, and straight to the point. Thank you!
I appreciate the convenience of the course being online and accessible through my phone and that it directly reports to CEBroker to support mandated education requirements.
I really loved this information. I was hospitalized last year for almost a month and I noticed multiple medical errors (not being hooked up to my IV multiple times, given wrong medication which caused my sodium to be very low, etc.) which lengthened my stay. I can now define those exact errors and better understand what happened to me. I hate that these medical errors are so common and I appreciate how well laid out your breakdown and categorization of them was.
I am always looking for concise ,thorough, and up to date continuing education, and this course provided exactly what I was looking for. Thank you
Enjoyed this course! It squarely met my license renewal requirement as a physician. It was well-written, and an altogether enjoyable read.
