Course description
This course prepares healthcare professionals to recognize and respond to potential bioterrorism incidents involving biological, chemical, and radiological agents. It covers the most common and lethal agents, their signs and symptoms, transmission and dissemination methods, treatments and medical countermeasures, decontamination and infection-control precautions, personal protective equipment, and the coordination and risk-communication steps needed during an attack.
By the end of the course, learners will be able to distinguish a natural outbreak from a deliberate attack, identify major bioterrorism agents and their treatments, apply appropriate infection-control and protective measures, and describe the healthcare provider's role within a bioterrorism readiness plan and the Health Alert Network.
Because the threat landscape continues to evolve, healthcare professionals need current, practical knowledge to detect unusual disease patterns early, identify the agents involved, and act quickly. This course addresses that gap by building the recognition, treatment, and coordinated-response skills required to protect patients and the public during high-stakes events.

This course is designed to support Nevada bioterrorism continuing education for Nevada nurses and for other Nevada healthcare professionals only when accepted by their licensing board, employer, or credentialing authority. It provides 4.0 continuing education hours and covers terrorism and weapons of mass destruction, personal protective equipment, common symptoms and treatment related to chemical, biological, radioactive, and nuclear exposures, syndromic surveillance and reporting, and the Health Alert Network.
