More than 12% of the U.S. population will develop a thyroid condition during their lifetime. An estimated 20 million Americans have some form of thyroid disease and up to 60 percent of those with thyroid disease are unaware of their condition. Pharmacists are considered the most accessible among healthcare professionals and they should be up to date in their knowledge about the pathology, symptoms, diagnosis and treatment options for thyroid disorders. Ambulatory care pharmacists are required to be knowledgeable about emergency conditions involving thyroid disorders.

The presentation will refresh the audience’s knowledge of the pathophysiology of thyroid disorders to help them understand and identify the biological targets for drug intervention. It will also discuss the different treatment options, their clinical use, and adverse effects.
