Texas Dentist
Total Hours Required:
24 hours
Next Renewal Date:
30th day after the date the license is issued
Required Courses:
- Human Trafficking approved by the executive commissioner of the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (no hour requirement)
- 2 hours in prescribing and monitoring controlled substances for DEA permit holders
- 4 hours in pain management for direct patient care practitioners
- 6 hours in the administration of or medical emergencies associated with the permitted level of sedation for Anesthesia or sedation permit holders of minimal sedation.
- 8 hours in the administration of or medical emergencies associated with the permitted level of sedation for Anesthesia or sedation permit holders of moderate sedation.
- 12 hours in the administration of or medical emergencies associated with the permitted level of sedation for Anesthesia or sedation permit holders of deep sedation/general anesthesia.
- At least 16 hours of coursework must be either technical or scientific as related to clinical care.
- Each licensee shall complete the jurisprudence assessment every four (4) years. Completion of the TSBDE Jurisprudence Assessment may not be considered in the 24-hour requirement.
Note: A maximum of 8 hours can be completed online
Texas Dental Hygienist
Total Hours Required:
24 hours

Required Courses:
- 12 hours on laser utilization (in-person)
- Human Trafficking approved by the executive commissioner of the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (no hour requirement)
- At least 16 hours of coursework must be either technical or scientific as related to clinical care (hands on).
Note: Maximum of 8 hours can be completed online
Texas Registered Dental Assistant
Total Hours Required:
12 hours
Next Renewal Date:
30th day after the date the license is issued
Required Courses:
- Human Trafficking approved by the executive commissioner of the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (no hour requirement)
- At least 6 hours of coursework must be either technical or scientific as related to clinical care (hands on).
Note: A minimum of 6 hours can be completed online.
Additional Information
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) training may be used towards continuing education hours.
