They must complete at least 12 credit hours of continuing education focused on clinical dental hygiene or medicine-related topics, with at least 2 hours dedicated to infection control . There is no mandated live or in-person requirement; all CE hours may be completed through home study courses approved by the state. Maintaining current CPR certification is also a renewal prerequisite, though this is a separate requirement. Continuing education credits must be documented and kept on file for potential audit. These rules are outlined by the Wisconsin Dentistry Examining Board and the Department of Safety and Professional Services source .
