Additional information
  • Vermont Licensed Practical Nurse Standard Renewal Requirements: Vermont LPNs must renew their licenses every two years by March 31 of odd-numbered years. To meet the continuing competency requirement, LPNs may complete 20 approved contact hours of continuing education, show evidence of qualifying nursing practice hours, maintain a nationally recognized certification, or have recently graduated from a nursing program. There are no in-person or mandatory topic CE hour minimums—LPNs are free to select CE most relevant to their professional role ( Vermont Board of Nursing ).

---

  • First-time renewal: LPNs licensed within 90 days before the renewal deadline are not required to renew until the next full licensing cycle vermont.gov

---

  • Certification alternative: Holding a current nationally recognized nursing certification fulfills the renewal competency requirement in place of CE or practice hours.

---

  • Other Certifications that nurses hold that needs to be renewed: LPNs are responsible for keeping any additional specialty or IV certifications current as needed by their practice or employer; these are not managed by the Board for state license renewal.

I really loved this information. I was hospitalized last year for almost a month and I noticed multiple medical errors (not being hooked up to my IV multiple times, given wrong medication which caused my sodium to be very low, etc.) which lengthened my stay. I can now define those exact errors and better understand what happened to me. I hate that these medical errors are so common and I appreciate how well laid out your breakdown and categorization of them was.
